Description

 Our client, a not for profit, in Suffolk County is looking to hire a Social Media/Content Journalist on a temp to hire basis. The ideal candidate should have Writing and Journalism experience along with Social Media experience.

1. Writing & Journalism Ability

Strong writing samples are required (journalistic-style, press releases, or story-based social content)

Must be comfortable interviewing people—often veterans—in sensitive or emotional contexts

Able to write with empathy, insight, and narrative structure

2. Administrative & Organizational Strength

Must be able to manage a content calendar, keep track of interviews, deliverables, and posts

Should be proficient with at least one task/project tracking tool (Airtable, Trello, etc.)

3. Technical Tools

Canva proficiency (for light graphics)

Comfortable capturing and organizing photos and video clips (even if just via iPhone)

Familiar with scheduling/posting on social media platforms

4. Professionalism & Mission Fit

Emotionally intelligent and articulate

Can handle emotionally sensitive stories with discretion and warmth

Mission alignment matters—a love for animals and empathy for veterans is a big plus

Bonus Skills (Nice-to-Haves)

Basic video editing or layout experience

Background in nonprofits or advocacy work

Experience with social media metrics and post-performance analysis

Experience writing for fundraising/donor outreach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in journalism, communications, creative writing, or media
  • At least 3 years’ experience doing similar work whether with press releases, articles, interviews
  • Familiarity with content scheduling tools
  • Experience with task management tools
  • Basic photo and video editing skills are a plus
